EERC Workshop: Measuring and explaining educational inequality

A one-day workshop bringing together researchers working on educational inequality in England, with presentations of work in progress and extended discussion.

The EERC hosts periodic workshops on specific research themes, providing a forum for researchers across institutions to present work in progress, share methods, and discuss the policy implications of their findings.

Workshop theme

This workshop focusses on the measurement and explanation of educational inequality in England. We welcome submissions on:

• Measurement of socioeconomic, ethnic, or geographic gaps in attainment and participation
• Causal mechanisms driving inequality (school quality, peer effects, neighbourhood effects, family background)
• Evaluation of policies aimed at narrowing attainment gaps
• Methodological contributions to the study of inequality in education

Format

The workshop will feature six to eight presentations of 30 minutes each, with 15 minutes of discussion. The day will close with a roundtable discussion on priorities for future research and policy engagement.
