The hackathon will take place over four days, from 1-4 June 2021. This virtual event is aiming to replicate a more intense in-person event, which would normally span two days.

Beforehand

  • Outlines of all the projects have been posted on the website
  • Materials will be distributed online that introduce the datasets and tools available. Please do look through them and check that you can access the computing facilities - so that you can hit the ground running on 1st June
  • A welcome video will be posted for you to watch on Fri 28th May

  • The rest of the time is devoted to group project work, denoted by ‘hacking’

Tues. 1st June

  • An introductory online session will be held to start the event: 10-12 AM, London Time
    • Welcome
    • Introduction to the dataset
    • Introduction to the projects (outline, themes and connections between them)
    • Introduction to the resources available
    • Initial project discussion and “shopping period”
  • The afternoon will be devoted to you getting to know each other as a team and what your interests and abilities are
  • You will start to explore the possibilities offered by the dataset

Wed. 2nd June

  • Development of projects
  • UCL Research Software will offer help sessions
  • Organisers provide suggestions and assistance

Thurs. 3rd June

  • Further development of projects
  • UCL Research Software will offer help sessions
  • Organisers provide suggestions and assistance

Fri. 4th June

  • The morning will be spent frantically completing your project
  • 12pm: Submission of all projects and outputs
  • Presentation and assessment by judges
  • 4pm: Concluding activities and awarding of prizes

We appreciate that this timing may be very inconvenient for teams based outside of the UK! Teams working in other time zones are welcome to submit pre-recorded presentations if they wish.
